Bergey's performance equals Player of Week

Second-year forward Jake Bergey of the Philadelphia Wings was named today as the National Lacrosse League’s Player of the Week, beating out Del Halladay of Syracuse and Pat O'Toole of Rochester for the award.

On Friday night, Bergey helped the Wings claim their first regular-season win in their last six games, and first of this season, by scoring four goals and assisting on two others in the Wings' 13-11 victory over the Buffalo Bandits. Bergey, the son of former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Bill Bergey, also scooped up ten loose balls, as the Wings avenged a home loss to Buffalo last month in the process.

Bergey will be one of the starters for the American All-Stars in the first-ever NLL All-Star Game next Saturday, 20 February, at the Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial. He and the Wings take on the Toronto Rock at Maple Leaf Gardens the night before in Philadelphia’s next regular season game.

This Week Seven award marks the first Player of the Week honor for Bergey, who last year finished third in the voting for NLL Rookie of the Year. He had won Rookie of the Month for February 1998.
