Defensive Knighthawks clip Wings in finale (from the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle)
The defending National Lacrosse League Champion Philadelphia Wings (5-7) closed out the l999 regular season with a 10-9 defeat at the hands of the Rochester Knighthawks (8-4) in front of 9,236 at the Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial tonight.
As fourth-place finishers in the seven-team league, the Wings will travel to Toronto to face the league-leading Rock (9-3) on Friday, April 16 at 7 p.m. in a semi-final playoff game while the second-place Baltimore Thunder host the third-place Knighthawks in the other semi-final game. The winners will play in the NLL Championship Game the following weekend.
Jake Bergey led the Wings with six points (3g, 3a). Five other players scored for Philadelphia, including Kevin Finneran, Tom Marechek (2g), Fred Jenner, Sean Radebaugh and Greg Traynor.
Tim Soudan, who was named the game's Most Valuable Player, led the K-Hawks with four points (2g, 2a). Three other players scored for Rochester, including Randy Mearns, Ted Dowling (2g) and Casey Powell.
