I was sure hoping that Avery would take the opportunity in Rochester to prove that he is a goalie that could be number 1 and/or a backup. It was hard to watch the first goal go in from 5 feet in side the defensive white line. Not a way to prove yourself or start the game on the road.
For some reason he just doesn't seem to make the big saves like Pat O'Toole made last night or a Gee Nashi, Patterson, Cosmo etc. It just seems every year we are struggling to establish a goalie in Calgary. We trade for Chugger, 38 and always seems injured. I guess that is why Buffalo gave him up. Will he be ready to play next weekend? Here we have a road on the game to Portland and then back on Sunday to play Colorado. Can Chugger even play two games in a row? If he(Chugger) can play, who then becomes the backup, Avery or Campbell? If Campbell can travel, I sure would give him a chance. What happens if Chugger can't play, Campbell can't travel, then what happens? Goaltending is the key to a successful team that makes it to the Championship. You need a goalie who can make the big stops when the O or D is struggling. Avery just doesn't seem up to the task. I sure wish he was, but how long do you stay with a goalie who is getting a chance to be #1 and can't come through for the team. You sure could see the players shoulders slump when he let in soft goals. Thought I was watching Leyshon. Hope things can turn around in the goaltending story. Avery is an ok back up, but my problem is the price we paid for an ok backup and the fact that we have an older goaltender that is finishing out his career. So who takes over? There is nothing in the queue.

No Campbell Friday vs. Portland per the Calgary Sun article on him. If Chugger isn't ready to go who becomes Avery's backup?

Speaking to Larry Dietrich last Saturday, I don't think Steve is fully recovered from the concussion.

I think you will see Chugger out for at least 3 to 4 more weeks. So, Campbell can't fly to Portland, but should be okay for Sunday against Colorado. That put Avery back as #1 for the Portland game. I wonder just how his confidence is feeling about now. Who is Avey's backup for Friday. Welcome back Leyshon and the 2007 season is back in swing. We have a number 1 in Dietrich who could be out for a long time and who knows maybe at 38 finished in the game of lacrosse. You have Avery who is struggling, Pat Campbell who is physically unable to play all of the games due to travel. Will anyone throw us a life line or another goalie?
