Default congrats, Veltman!

And now he's rookie of the MONTH, as well as winning rookie of the week - twice!

from nll.com:
"Veltman, who was selected first overall out of Hobart College in the 2008 NLL Entry Draft, has been extremely valuable in his five games for the expansion Boston Blazers.

The 23-year-old forward leads all rookies in goals (11), assists (15) and points (26), and has helped Boston to a 2-3 record in January, good for third place in the East."

Default veltman

Good young talent, but he needs to improve his shot selection. Saturday night, in a tight contest, he was taking shots that had no hope in h of going in. Confidence is great, but once you've got the ball, don't think the only way to get rid of it is a shot on net from anywhere.

Thumbs up Veltman

I questioned him being the #1 pick at the beginning of the season but he has made me a believer in his ability to play on and off ball on the offensive end and an excellent loose ballmonger in respect to his Uncle. I predict that he lights the light multiple times this saturday.

I agree, but it seemed to me his shooting style was a lot different in the portland game versus the two against philly. The Jax D are *huge* and they kept our guys out pretty effectively (for the most part). I agree that taking outside shots have relatively low chances to go in - especially against goalies of Disher's (or Cosmo's!) caliber - but at the same time, a certain percentage will find the net... and if you can't break into the middle, a shot on net is better than no shot at all (most times).

I'm really looking forward to the Titans game. I'm not sure NY will recognize the team as the same Blazers they played 3 weeks ago.

BoxItUp .... I agree about the Portland D keeping him to the outside. My concern with his shot selection wasn't in situations where the clock was almost run down, but where there was lots of time to pull it back and work it around.
I hope NY is going to see a different team Saturday than they did in weeks 1 and 2.
If last Saturday was an indication, NY is going to see a different Cosmo for sure.
Dawson has taken cortrol of the offence.
Thenhaus and Veltman will be productive.
Let's get the ball to Lyons like in the back to back with Philly.
D has improved their performance, but still has a way to go. Portland scored at least 3 goals on complete switch breakdowns, including the OT winner.
Not sure who the transition game falls to.

Thumbs up Defense

As has already been said, the defense, especially five on five, has improved dramatically. The transition Defense hurt them at the end of the Portland game. Offensive guys can not just run off if they are on the far side and the offense of Portland, made a beeline from the Box at the end causing 2-1's. Transition has improved since the NY games, Downing has continued to improve and if Queener is back then they will have another transition player to help push the offensive end...Who will step up tomorrow night???
