Default Fan poll: Should NLL title be decided by one game or a series?

Plenty of pros and cons for each, but what do you think? I'd love to see a series, but kinda doubt we'll ever have it in the NLL. I just think a series is more fair to a game like lacrosse. One game doesn't necessarily define which is the best team, except for that one particular game.

Check it out. http://www.nllinsider.com/2009/09/30...e-or-a-series/

I love the seven game war in the summer but...the NLL is a different league; different rules; different time of the year...one game crapshoot suits it a whole lot better....IMHO.

Granted most of the fans either came down from Philly OR couldn't not get into a sold-out Oriole game. It was also a Tuesday night. I think a best of 3 could work under the right circumstances. But cost and travel could prove dicey with a league with a shoestring budget.

As much as I'd like to see a series, I don't think the league is ready to do that.

One game - that make it more exciting than series.

With series, you can approach it - if we lose Game 1, there is tomorrow.

Withe one game - there is NO TOMORROW. WIN OR ELSE.

Hey, NLL used NFL-style of schedule and playoff. One game and thats it. NFL dont have series. We have Super Bowl and thats it. Same for Championship's Cup. One game and thats it.

If we should have series, then how come MLL dont have series. How come Final Four goes to Maryland and they have back to back games.

I dont want to sound CON here but the point is this - we dont have tv. We dont have revenues to support the series. Once we get reveunes to support the league, then we can discuss series.

How will series work if we have games on weekend? Should we have Thurs, then Sat/Sun for best of three series? This would make Friday as travel day. It would be too much for players, coaching and fans (like me who loves to follow the team all over the place).

Im sorry, but for now, Im going for do or die game. That make things more exciting for the league.

Default Remember the bumper stickers that said "One Way"?

For the extended foreseeable future of this league there can be only one format. Single game elimination.

Black and white of it is league size and franchise finances.

Put this one to bed.

Default Series

I think a three game series could work for the finals only.

They had a championship series once already. 97 or 98?? Someone else help me with the dates.

We have 11 teams in NLL. Lets look at other leagues beside football that use single game championship format.

WNBA - they have 14 teams, I believe, when the league started with 8 teams, it was single game format. It grew to 14 teams, I believe. They now have 2 best of three series and best of five series for WNBA Finals. This league is in bad shape. Without NBA backing, this league would have fold. We have seen lot of teams folded. Look at the team that came in 1997 and compare it to 2009. Only NY Liberty and 1-2 other teams have survived that long because of the backing of NBA owners.

MLS - I remember they had 14 teams. Two teams folded (Miami and Tampa Bay). Then San Jose moved to Houston. Then MLS granted expansion franchise to San Jose (ala Cleveland Browns). We now have 16 teams, I believe with two more coming in 2011 (Portland and Vancouver). Im not sure how the playoff format work in MLS but I believe its total goals series in two games. First game is held at Team A's home. Second game is head at Team B's home. Whoever scored the most goals between Team A and Team B, move onto next round. Same for conference/division finals. Then in Championship game, its do or die game.

So, should NLL do best of three, best of five or best of 7 series? They can, but the time, right now, is NOT RIGHT. Perhaps, 10 to 20 years down the road, it can happen. But the way I see it, I believe, we will stick with DO OR DIE GAME until majority of public is ready to accept this league as the next big thing.

I have to admitted that we are far behind soccer in term of the next big thing.

I'd love to see a 3 game Championship series. On a Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the higher ranked team's arena.

The home fans get a chance to see some extra lacrosse to finish the season and the loser of the first game gets a chance shake it off and try and come back which should generally be very exciting to watch.

Single game. No question. A series is fine for any sport with a long season with a plethora of games. But so long as each NLL is only playing a handful of games a year, it's silly to try to do a series.

You play a *16* game regular season, and already have a 3-round playoff.

One of the most pathetic things about the NHL and NBA is the fact that they play so many damn playoff games, you can end up playing 1/3rd as many playoff games as the regular season.

Maybe someone can correct me but the series in the late 90's was Wings/Thunder. It failed because the Wings won both games. The first game had 13 or 14k attendance and game two was in front of 5 thousand people in Baltimore. I realize they will not make the change but a three game championship series between two teams that draw well would be GREAT for the league.

Rocky gets one right!!

Win or die, nothing beats that. You show up, you know the title is won that night.

When you get a US national TV contract, then think otherwise. '98 is the perfect example of why you cannot go to more than one game until you get that TV contract.

It was an unmitigated disaster in 1998, it would be an unmitigated disaster now. This isn't a beer league playing in rinky-dink arenas in small town Canada. Fitting in even a 3 game series would cost the league hundreds of thousands of dollars, and the games would be played on Tuesday afternoon if you happened to have a host that had a NHL/NBA team in the playoffs.

There are only two teams that draw well in the nll right now.

I have always likes the two game series which is 1st game at lower seed game two at higher seed then a 15 minute full time over time if tied at 1-1

I like the two game home and home series with a third and deciding mini-game if needed to break a 1-1 tie.

Could be a weekend series. In a pinch, it could be two weekends.

If you have to go to game 3, I'd like to see it as a two 15 minute period mini game with sudden death to follow that if needed.

I'd like to see a 3 game series... first ranked team plays away on Friday, then home on Saturday and Sunday if needed.

1998 was 10 years ago... nothing has changed since then.

DO NOT, let me repeat this, DO NOT TRY TO TURN NLL into AFL thing. Please.

It will backfired because we are in deep and majority recession.

DO OR DIE Championship Game is the best thing right now. And Im against home n home game in which we go to OT on 2nd night.

When we get the team from Vancouver and is playing against the team in Buffalo. Thats MAJOR CROSS COUNTRY TRIP to fly on the same day. Cant have that. Sorry

Why not, cross country trips and playing on the same day has been done before... sure it's tough, but it IS do-able.

time zone difference. Flying 3 different time zones after playing first game and then to do it so, with less than 24 hours, impossible.

If we can have Thurs and Sat/Sun best of three series with Friday as travel day, then it can be done.

but do the league have money for cross country trip? Can they plan that at the last mintue? hotels? Airplane cost? can team sell tickets at the last mins? How do the FANS know if they will have to come to 3rd and deciding game? Too much logical on this with NO TV!!!

I know, majority of people do have computer, yep, but what if they cant get access to computer for several reasons (like computer crash, cant afford one, or waiting for new one to arrive and so on).
